I saw this on television when I was about 5 or 6 and never saw it again, or forgot it, until tonight, 62 years later. Made in 1952, it is a British short film directed by Wendy Toye and written by Sidney Carroll. Alan Badel plays the eponymous protagonist; a strangely-garbed and eccentric-acting stranger in a small English town. After several days on being in the town, the citizens accept him as a bit daft, though harmless, member of the community. He then pays a visit to the town's leading citizen and reveals a darker purpose...
