Simon Watt studied guitar privately for many years in England before coming to Australia in 1992. In 1993 he attended the Australian Institute of Music for three years majoring in the guitar with jazz and contemporary studies, and also studied composition. During this time Simon studied under significant teachers including Ike Issacs, Carl Orr, & Dave Smith. His studies involved all music styles, including a focus on jazz and improvisation techniques and music theory. Simon later studied electronic music and began experimenting with a lot of different sounds and techniques, including midi recording. Simon’s qualifications and experience in the electronics and engineering fields combined with his musical experience bring a great deal of expertise to any sound recording projects he undertakes. Simon has played lead guitar in various bands around Sydney including session work. He was the lead guitarist in ‘Green Room’, a blues/ jazz band and CO-wrote and arranged the songs in their 1998 CD entitled “So Called Wisdom” and has CO written on their latest CD. In 2011 Simon formed Liberty Music Design, a company dedicated to composing great music, in 2012 Simon was a shortlisted finalist for the APRA 2012 Tropscore music film festival composing category, and has went on to complete many projects, including For Evie a short film, Vox Populia, The Last Drag both short films , ads, including the Seek Volunteer campaign and even an audio book with full music score, The Dragon Song written by Harris Tobias. Simon has also had advanced studies in Logic Pro 9 and this mixed with his studies means he has the ability to create a vast array of soundscapes and has the technical understanding of what he is doing. In 2013 he will be composing the score for the film Darkness which will be shot in Melbourne and Finn Stein which is now in post production and shot in San Francisco.
